New Zealand is Ready to Welcome Back Sports Fans

June 10, 2020 Posted in Rugby by No Comments

New Zealand Rugby has announced that there are no limits in place for crowd numbers over the opening weekend of the Super Rugby Aotearoa. Fans are going to be allowed to return to their beloved sports stadiums en masse as we celebrate the total eradication of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern recently revealed that we would be moving to Level One Restrictions from midnight on the 8th of June after no new COVID-19 cases have been recorded for 17 days. This means that there will be zero restrictions on mass gatherings ahead of the Super Rugby Aotearoa’s tournament’s kick-off this weekend.

NZR confirmed shortly after PM Ardern’s announcement that there will be no restrictions on crowd numbers during the opening vistures. Mark Robinson, Chief Executive Officer for the body, stated that it’s a testament to all Kiwis that this lift is possible and it’s a huge boost for Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Robinson went on to say that his team is very proud, and profoundly grateful, to be the first professional sporting competition in the world to be able to allow fans to watch their favourite teams play again. He said the competition is going to be special and unique and that it’s fitting that New Zealanders can now be a proper part of it.

New Zealand and Australia have announced plans for Super Rugby tournaments to be held countrywide, with our version opening with a skirmish between the Chiefs and the Highlanders on the 13th of June at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium.
