NFL’s Virtual Offseason Extended Until 26 June

The first preseason National Football League game is scheduled to kick off on the 6th of August 2020, with the Dallas Cowboys going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Canton, Ohio Hall of Fame Game. The regular season is then going to be opening on time, with the Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs hosting a game in which they’ll be facing off against the Houston Texans on September 10 2020.

The NFL has prolonged virtual offseason programmes for teams through to the 26th of June, but cannot extend any further than this. While team facilities are up and running for coaches, key personnel, and players currently rehabilitating from injuries, healthy athletes have been barred. This is, of course, due to the fallout from the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Remote programmes have taken the place of on-site work, but certain teams have already started announcing that these are starting to be shut down.

Brain McCarthy, spokesman for the League, said that they would continue working with the National Football League Players’ Association to conclude the last protocols. He added that finalising the arrangement for training camps to safely be opened next month is also on the agenda. They have, mostly, been scheduled to start up in late July, with several options being provided. Several options are open to the bodies, including opening earlier to allow for physical exams and face-to-face meetings, pushing back the preseason, and reducing it by hosting fewer games.
